Nothing says celebration quite like a champagne tower. Whether you're aiming for a classic and elegant moment or something fun and Instagram-worthy, getting your tower just right takes a little planning.
We spoke to Emma Mallen, owner of styling and floristry company Duchess Seerra, to get her expert advice on ensuring your bubbly cascade is as seamless as it is stunning.
How many glasses do you need for a champagne tower?
A good champagne tower is all about balance – literally! Emma recommends using 16 to 18 champagne coupes for the best results.
“This number creates a beautiful tower without taking up too much space,” she explains. “It’s also the perfect amount for two bottles of champagne to fill all the glasses.”
Some couples opt for a grander display, but remember: the taller the tower, the more precarious it becomes.

How to decorate your champagne tower
Champagne towers are already a visual spectacle, but a little extra styling can take them to the next level. “Personalise the coupes with bows or ribbons that complement your wedding colour scheme,” Emma suggests.
You could also add subtle embellishments like pearl detailing or gold-rimmed glasses for a touch of luxury.
For a truly cohesive look, think about how the tower fits within the wider reception styling. Elegant floral arrangements around the base or a decorative tablecloth beneath can elevate the aesthetic even further.

Where to place your champagne tower for the best photos
A champagne tower isn’t just about the drinks – it’s a major photo opportunity! “Position your tower near a beautiful backdrop, floral arrangements, or even neon signage for maximum impact,” Emma advises.
The moment you pour the champagne will be one of the highlights of the evening, so having the right setting ensures your photographer captures it beautifully.
Make sure there’s ample lighting, whether from candles, fairy lights, or a statement chandelier, to set the mood and enhance the sparkle of the champagne as it cascades through the glasses.

When is the best time for a champagne tower pour?
Timing is everything when it comes to making the most of this show-stopping moment. “A great time to do the champagne pour is just before the first dance,” Emma suggests.
“It gets everyone off their seats, watching in anticipation, and sets the tone for a night of celebration.”
However, don’t rush to set up the tower too early. “Wait until about 10 minutes before you’re ready to pour to stack the glasses,” she warns.
“They can be easily knocked over, especially if there’s a lot of movement nearby.” Having a member of your wedding team or venue staff on hand to assist is always a good idea.

How to pour champagne for a perfect tower cascade
When the moment arrives, you don’t want to be fumbling with stubborn corks. “There isn’t really a technique to the pour – just have fun with it!” Emma reassures. “But one tip? Make sure the bottles are popped beforehand.”
Once the corks are out, pour steadily from the top glass and let the champagne cascade down naturally. There’s no need to rush – take your time, smile for the cameras, and enjoy the moment.
