Leading Aberdeenshire suppliers got together to show off modern wedding dresses, slick tux and tartan trews – modelled by a real life couple – at this Grampian venue that's also a distillery

New Aberdeen wedding venue and distillery House of Elrick was visited by Bonnie Prince Charlie back in the 18th century. 300 years down the line, the venue has played host to an equally bonnie styled bride and groom photoshoot, headed up by local florist Isla Duncan.

“I was doing some freelance work for House of Elrick getting their wedding marquee ready and began to think it would be a fabulous location for a shoot,” recalls Isla. “The house isn’t open to the public, so when I asked my friends and frequent wedding collaborators Steph M Artistry and Michelle Reid Hair if they’d like to visit for a nosey (with the blessing of the venue), they jumped at the chance.

“When we were looking round, we began to get excited about ideas so knew we had to make it happen, and quickly lined up another friend and photographer Donna Murray.”

The trio are well-connected on the Aberdeenshire wedding scene, so it wasn’t a problem to get suppliers to help bring their modern but relaxed vision to life. “Emma at Aberdeen bridal boutique Ivory Grace agreed to help with wedding dresses, while Mitchell Scott – another fantastic supplier we’ve worked with over the years – loaned us a dapper tartan trews outfit,” says Isla.

Model Sophie looked knock-out in a sculpted satin off-shoulder gown with sassy thigh-high split paired firstly with a fun oversized bow, then an on-trend ruffle veil. A bold bunch of lilies, blue suede platform shoes (fabulous enough to make Elvis jealous) and groom for the day Blair looking handsome in a Slater Menswear white-tie tux outfit completed look number one.

The bride slipped into a full-length finespun lace illusion dress with demure high neck for the second batch of shots, while Blair donned the blue tartan trews from Michell Scott.

Sophie and Blair are real-life girlfriend and boyfriend, so the laughter and looks of love captured on camera are all genuine (aww!) and their good vibes spread among the whole team. “We may have winged it a bit – we pulled the shoot together in just 11 days – but we had an absolute blast and many laughs along the way,” smiles Isla.
