This luxury Perthshire farm is a foodie’s dream wedding venue, as we discover during a relaxing stay in the countryside
Ballintaggart Farm is undeniably a beautiful wedding venue, but it’s actually better known for its delicious food. The family behind it run a cookery school, a hotel with a fabulous restaurant, and offer private dining and catering for events.
Ballintaggart’s bespoke wedding menu
Dinner for up to 38 is possible for weddings at the farm with the meal prepared by a team of passionate chefs using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
The chefs work with each couple to create something bespoke. Taking inspiration from your favourite flavours and dishes, they will come up with a menu that really reflects you.
After canapés (£18 per guest, 2024 prices), you can choose from a three-course menu (£68 per guest), feast-style menu (£78 per guest), or tasting menu (£88 per guest), followed by some more delicious evening food (£10 to £15 per guest). And, if you need it, Ballintaggart can also provide a tiered cake, supper the night before, breakfast hampers, midnight feasts and brunch the day after.
My partner and I got to sample the food for ourselves at their Grandtully Hotel, and unsurprisingly it was an amazing experience. We were welcomed to the restaurant with a glass of fizz, which was soon followed by canapés. We had the perfectly presented autumn set menu, which was bursting with flavour. The knowledgeable waiting staff gave us the lowdown on each dish as it came out of the kitchen, which really added to the dining experience.
I went for vegetarian options – barbecue broccoli, salt-baked celeriac and a chocolate and caramel delice. Across the table it was oysters, Negroni-cured halibut, venison and a soufflé.
The food was sensational – one of the best meals we’ve ever had. It’s not hard to see why couples from all over Scotland choose Ballintaggart to cater their big day.
Ballintaggart Farm event catering
If your guest list is too long for the farm but you’ve fallen in love with Ballintaggart’s cooking, you could book the company to cater for your wedding at another venue. They can supply the catering for weddings for any number of guests.
The accommodation
Sleeping up to 14 people, the Farmhouse has six bedrooms (five of which are en-suite). The Steading has two en-suite double rooms, and East End Cottage has two king-sized bedrooms. The Grandtully Hotel, just a short drive down the road, has a further eight bedrooms.
We were staying the night at the cosy and luxurious Farmhouse. It has space to sleep up to 14 people, and is a great place to chill out the night before the wedding and get ready the next morning. It has a log fire, heated floors in the bathrooms, and some of the bedrooms have a freestanding bathtub in the middle of them!
How many guests can you have at Ballintaggart Farm?
Ballintaggart Farm can accommodate 38 day guests and a further 12 in the evening during spring and summer. Capacity is slightly reduced in the winter months.
Exclusive-use wedding space
Book your wedding here and you get exclusive use of the event spaces as well as accommodation the night before and the night of your wedding. You and your guests will be welcomed into the Farmhouse and Steading. Weekend bookings cost £9,600 and during the week it’s £9,000 (2024 prices).
There is ample outdoor space, which is framed by fields of wildflowers in the summer, and views of the Perthshire countryside as far as the eye can see. It’s perfect for a ceremony, cocktail reception and photos. While an outdoor do might seem risky given the unpredictable Scottish weather, Holly, Ballintaggart’s head of events, assured us it has never rained at any of the weddings she’s hosted. The farm is equally lovely in autumn and winter, when it is made warm and welcoming with candles and fire pits.
If you prefer to celebrate indoors, the Library will do nicely for cake cutting, welcome drinks or a small dinner. The Feast Room is the biggest indoor wedding space and fits 38 people. Its long table lends itself to their feast-style dinner, and the room can easily be transformed into a beautiful ceremony space.
Throughout the year, Ballintaggart hosts numerous ‘Feast Night’ supper clubs and masterclasses, giving you a chance to experience the food before (and after) your big day.
For an intimate wedding that’ll have you and your guests raving about the food and accommodation for years to come, this lovely corner of Perthshire is just the place.
