“A dream is a wish your heart makes," sang Cinderella in the movie of the same name. That’s something that clearly resonated with Disney mega-fan Robyn when she planned her fairytale wedding to James, her own Prince Charming, at Cameron House.
After two and a half years together, airline CEO James popped the question to influencer Robyn at Disney World in Florida (“my favourite place on earth”) in February 2023 and, when it came to the wedding, there were lots of personal touches in homage to the bride’s obsession.
Disney wedding ideas
“My dress was from the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings collection at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Bridal in East Kilbride,” she smiles. “As soon as I saw it online, I knew it was the one, but I tried on four others just to be sure.
“We also had a magic mirror photo booth and a fireworks display set to Disney music during the reception to bring the theme in.”
Choosing the venue was straightforward. “James and I live in Dubai, but I’m originally from West Dunbartonshire, not too far from where Cameron House is. We’d celebrated my birthday there the year before, and both loved it. We wanted to have our celebrations in one location, with a nice view, plus activities for our 190 guests, many of whom were travelling from overseas to join us.” The venue box was ticked, then!
Getting married on the bonnie banks certainly gave the international guests a flavour of Scotland, but the bride’s family went one step further. “They surprised us by arranging a performance from a pipe band. Giving our guests that authentic Scottish experience was wonderful,” recollects Robyn.

In addition to the fireworks and pipe band, the couple laid on a generous bar. “We had a champagne ‘slammer station’ and personalised cocktails: mine, a French martini; and an old fashioned for James.”
Wedding planning overwhelming
Disney aside, the bride admits she found planning the styling and decor a little overwhelming: “It’s crazy how many big extravagant weddings are floating around on social media. Some are made up by AI and are completely unreal. Seeing these initially made my expectations go through the roof. I had to bring myself back down to earth and think about what I really wanted – without comparing that to stuff online.”
In the end, the bride followed her heart. “I grew up with cherry blossom trees in my garden and always thought they were so pretty and romantic. Once I settled on incorporating them into our decor, pale pink and sage green became the colour palette.

“Our cake by The Cake Fairy tied in with all the decor and featured a tiny figurine of our dog, Max, who was pup of honour on the day.” The good boy wore a bow-tie collar and had a starring role at various points in the day.
“He joined us for our first dance (more of a tipsy shimmy, to be honest) to ‘Lovebug’ by the Jonas Brothers. He also delivered our rings during the ceremony.”
The ceremony was led by Susan Krenbrenk at Fuze Ceremonies. “She was wonderful, and it was funny and personal – and super-quick! James said ‘I do’ before he was even asked, which was my favourite part,” laughs Robyn.
The bride admits she felt nervous before walking down the aisle. “I have no idea why, though! I’m a confident person who has done beauty pageants, so I am very used to having all eyes on me. But as soon as I laid eyes on James, thankfully, all my nerves disappeared.”
There were some unexpected but cute attendees watching on as the couple exchanged vows. “Our teddies, wearing bow-ties, sat in the front row to watch us get married. Some people might find that an odd and ridiculous thing for adults to do – and that is why these people don’t get to be our friends,” laughs Robyn.
What to give bridesmaids on wedding day
Talking of besties, the bride’s squad of six bridesmaids were all presented with gift boxes and handwritten letters on the morning of the wedding. “I’m glad to report there was a 100% success rate in making them all cry!
“I had a blissful morning with them getting ready. We listened to music, danced away in our Nadine Merabi pyjamas, drank mimosas and enjoyed slowly getting ready.”
The bridesmaids’ main task for the rest of the day? “To try and control the six wild groomsmen!” giggles Robyn. “The boys were tasked with just one job: passing out sparklers during the fireworks, and they were too drunk even for that, ha ha! An all-round fail, but absolutely hilarious.”
That said, the best man had pulled it out of the bag earlier with an “amazing” speech.
“They were all brilliant. My dad was so nervous as he hates public speaking, but he smashed it! James made a slightly dirty joke during his and there are photos of me in shock wanting the ground to swallow me up,” laughs Robyn, who chose photographer Charlotte Clemie to capture it all.

“She’s a friend from back in my beauty pageant days and her style is beyond beautiful. “The image she got of me and James laughing on the stairs of Cameron House that shows off the back of my dress is just perfection. It will forever be my screensaver.”
Wedding planning top tip
Top tip: “Get creative with digital moodboards to help you visualise the bigger picture. I had different albums on Pinterest for all our different supplier categories. It made comparing things simple which, in turn, made decision-making much easier," says Robyn.
