What are grooms wearing in 2024? How do I figure out which tartan to go for? Does buying make more sense than hiring? You've got the questions and store manager at Remus Uomo, Martin Rennie, has the answers

Martin. Tell us about the business

We are an Italian-inspired, design-led British brand offering casual and formal menswear made from top-quality fabrics, and all our items are designed in Northern Ireland. We were founded in 1996, and are part of the wider family-owned menswear company Douglas & Grahame.

What is unique about the brand?

We are actually very competitively priced for what we offer – our stuff can rival high-end designer pieces, but at a fraction of the cost. Our customers come to us for different occasions – as well as clothes that can be worn every day, we also sell garments that are smart enough to be worn down the aisle.

Have you noticed any big trends this year?

There is still a desire for the dinner suit, especially in the winter – men are opting for velvet jackets. But for summer months, linen is absolutely the thing; I’d say it’s the fabric of the year. Linen suits in nice light and neutral colours are hugely popular – they are definitely going to be the outfit of summer weddings!

I’m really unsure about what to wear. Can you help?

Absolutely! We love working with everyone, whether you have a clear vision in mind or not a clue about what you fancy. We always suggest popping into the store and chatting to us. That means we can talk you through the options and we can mix and match pieces to help you find your perfect look. If you’re nervous about it, don’t be: we want you to feel at ease, so we aim to create an experience that is relaxing and welcoming.

Can I buy my whole outfit from you?

Yes! We have everything from suits to ties, shirts to shoes. The only thing we don’t carry is cufflinks, but we can point you in the direction of good local jewellers who can help!

Will my outfit be tailored?

We can do ‘nips and tucks’ – small alterations such as tapering trousers and taking the hems up or down. We want you to look and feel your best in your new clothes.

Remus Uomo’s Silverburn branch will be closing at the end of June. Stay tuned for updates on a new Glasgow location opening in the autumn!
